Maintainer objects specify the parties who are allowed to perform updates to the APIRR, and how these parties are authenticated. When a route or aut-num object is submitted for registration, a maintainer object must be registered and referenced in the route or aut-num object; otherwise the submission will be rejected. Thus, the first step in registering information in the APIRR is to register one or more maintainer objects.
Note: If you want to use your Autonomous System (AS) number in the name of your maintainer object you must first obtain an AS number from APNIC.
To register your maintainer object, first determine the names and email addresses of those who will be allowed to update aut-num and route objects. Then copy the maintainer object template into an email message, filling in the fields with the appropriate information, and send it to irr-admin@apnic.net. An APIRR administrator will then add the object to the registry.
The value of the mnt-by attribute should be the value of the mntner attribute, i.e., your maintainer ID. This self-reference specifies that updates to this maintainer object are allowed only from those email addresses specified in the maintainer object. Without this requirement, anyone could modify the maintainer and subsequently change the objects it references.
For more information on maintainer objects, see Field attributes of APIRR maintainer objects.
See APIRR template for the route template.
Example:
mntner: MAINT-AS64512-WF
address Sparky Service Provider
address 2 Pandora St Boxville
address Wallis and Futuna Islands
admin-c: KX9-AP
tech-c: ZU42-AP
upd-to: kxander@sparkynet.com.wf
auth: MAIL-FROM kxander@sparkynet.com.wf
auth: MAIL-FROM noc@sparkynet.com.wf
auth: MAIL-FROM zulrich@sparkynet.com.wf

An aut-num object specifies an Autonomous System's routing policy. Aut-num objects must be registered before route objects. To do this, first determine how to express the AS policy in RPSL. See _Field attributes of aut-num objects_ for more information.
Next, copy the AS object template below into an email message, filling in the fields with the appropriate information, and send it to auto-irr@apnic.net (not irr-admin@apnic.net) The IRRd database server will immediately check the object for proper syntax and some semantic checks will be performed. If errors are detected, the object will be returned to you with annotations describing the errors. Otherwise, the aut-num object will be added to the registry.
Note that the mnt-by field should contain the string you submitted in the mntnr field of the maintainer object.
See APIRR template for the route template.
Example:
aut-num: AS64512
as-name: SPARKYNET-AS-WF
descr: SparkyNet WF
descr: (Connect to SparkyNet Intl)
import: from AS1234 accept ANY
export: to AS1234 announce RS-THIS-AS
export: to AS4321 announce ANY
export: to AS4321 announce ANY
admin-c: KX9-AP
tech-c: ZU42-AP
notify: kxander@sparkynet.com.wf
mnt-by: MAINT-AS64512-WF
changed: hostmaster@apnic.net 20000109
source: APIRR
If you want the aut-num object to show a BGP policy that accepts all routes and export sall routes to anyone, your import/export statements would be as follows:
import: from AS-ANY accept ANY
export: to AS-ANY announce asxxx
Copy the route template available in the APIRR template page, fill in the fields, and send it to auto-irr@apnic.net. The object will be parsed. If errors are detected, the object will be returned to you with a list of errors. Otherwise, the route object will be added to the APIRR.
Example:
route: 202.137.181/24
descr: SPARKYNET
origin: AS64512
mnt-by: MAINT-AS64512-WF
changed: kxander@sparkynet.com.wf 20000525

Quick tips on submitting objects to the APIRR
All submissions to auto-irr@apnic.net must be in plain text format and NOT in any MIME encoded format.
Updating an object will replace the existing object; therefore the complete object must be submitted.
When using MAIL-FROM authentication make sure the e-mail address you send the submission from is the same as the one registered in the maintainer object.
auto-irr@apnic.net parses the submitted objects and sends a report of any errors back to you.
NIC-handles can be obtained at http://www.apnic.net/apnic-bin/person.pl
