APNIC responds to Draft Recommendations on Transition from IPv4 To IPv6

APNIC has taken the opportunity to review Draft Recommendations on issues relating to Transition of IPv4 to IPv6 in India prepared by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and on 30 December 2005 submitted a response.
APNIC was happy to see that much of APNIC's feedback sent to TRAI following the release of the Consultation paper on issues relating to transition from IPv4 to IPv6 in India in August 2005 was incorporated into the latest draft recommendations document. In particular, APNIC was pleased to see that the report recommends that:
- regulator/licensors should adopt technology-neutral, light-handed approach; and,
- to facilitate the transition to IPv6, government should act as a catalyst by creating awareness and assisting in human resource development.
In addition, APNIC included some thoughts for TRAI's consideration, including:
- the need to consider the issue of funding participation in global IPv6 initiatives; and,
- information on how NIRs communicate within the APNIC structure.
