AfriNIC transition continues
APNIC has worked very closely with AfriNIC to prepare for their eventual emergence as the new Regional Internet Registry for the African region.
As part of the transition process, APNIC and AfriNIC have been conducting joint review of all IP and AS number requests coming from the emerging AfriNIC region.
From February 14 2005, as the next step in the transition process, all IP and AS number requests from the AfriNIC region will be submitted directly to AfriNIC using AfriNIC templates. These requests will continue to be reviewed under the current APNIC policies, but the request process will include coordination between AfriNIC and APNIC staff to ensure consistency.
Also from February 14, registrations with postal addresses within the emerging AfriNIC region will be documented in the AfriNIC whois database.
The economies currently in the APNIC region that will become part of the AfriNIC region are Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mayotte, Reunion, and Seychelles.
Please note that in addition to the normal APNIC policies, special IPv4 allocation criteria also apply to LIRs in these economies.
