[Wg-rms] Stepping down from co-chair role

Dear Working Group Members,

Over the past few weeks I have been considering my position as co-chair of the working group and I have decided to step down from the role. The reason is simple, I have concerns about the perception of APNIC staff driving policy within the region. Clearly such perceptions should be avoided and policy or policy recommendations should be products of the community. I'm sure Shin will post a call for a new co-chair in the coming days.

In this case I will remain a participant of the working group, and offer any assistance or information I can which comes from my position in APNIC.

So far as the agenda for the working group in concerned, based on the outcome of the meeting at APNIC 22, initial focus should be given to prop-037 "Deprecation of email updates for APNIC Registry and whois data". If an outcome towards policy is desired for the Bali meeting, then there is requirement that a submission needs to be with the secretariat by 29 January 2007.

Now as a WG participant, I feel the RMS working group should consider the future of interactions between member systems (NIR & APNIC member) and the APNIC registry in light of all the possible future services and service improvements that may be offered by the secretariat.

With those interactions in mind clear and unbiased evaluation should be given to the various problem statements that surround email submission and the customer experience.

Please also consider that prop-037 is just the starting point as review has been called for of the APNIC registry system including, but not limited to, privacy data concerns and DNS submission and generation. While prop-037 may end up being the focus for now, in your evaluation please don't be blinded by it thinking that this is only an email issue.

Cheers
Terry
