Date: 7 Sep 2006 16:00-17:30
Place: Grand Hi-Lai Hotel, Kaohsiung, Taiwan
Number of Participants: about 50 (7 people in chat room)
We have no action item.
We had 6 presentations (all of them were informational).
1) APNIC IPv6 status report
George Kuo, APNIC
This presentation is a semiannual IPv6 resource allocation report from
APNIC. There were continuous request for IPv6 address allocation. This
time, George reported the results of a 2006 IPv6 survey of the Asia
Pacific region undertaken by APNIC. The survey reported that there are
still some difficulties for deploying IPv6.
2) The phasing out of the 6bone
Geoff Huston, APNIC
Geoff reported the observation ofthe phase out of the 6bone network in
June 2006 and its impact on the IPv6 routing table. He noted a number
of other anomalies in the IPv6 routing table, including the removal
ghost routes. He also noted that there are a small number of people
still using 6bone prefixes.
3) IPv6 PA multihoming
Marla Azinger, ARIN
This presentation looked at what solutions exist to enable IPv6
multihoming and traffic engineering, and what solutions might be found
on a global scale. Marla noted that various organisations, including
the IETF and the RIRs, were being approached to have input into
possible solutions. She encouraged the audience to contribute any
suggestions that they might have.
4) The problems in IPv6 multi-prefix environment and the solving
methods
Ken-ichi Kanayama, Intec NetCore
Mr. Kanayama discussed IPv6 multi-prefix environments (a network in
which end-sites use two or more address prefixes), and some of the
challenges involved in establishing and maintaining these
environments. He also introduced a tool to control the multi-prefix
enviromment.
5) IPv6 deployment status in Japan
Nao Fukushima, IPv6 Promotion Council of Japan
Mr Fukushima spoke about the status of IPv6 deployment within Japan,
including governmental activities, the IPv6 Deployment Field Trial,
and various other projects. He noted that IPv6 services are currently
available in Japan for home and business users, though these services
are still improving.
6) IPv6 deployment strategies and status in Taiwan
Hung Chang Lee, National IPv6 Deployment & Development Program
Mr. Lee spoke about the deployment of IPv6 in Taiwan. He noted the
role of the NICI IPv6 Steering Committee, and that the construction
and deployment of IPv6 in Taiwan is well underway, and will be further
driven by the release of IPv6 applications and products.
