[sig-db]PERL Interface to Whois

Hi,

I am new to this list but already use your database (indirectly) to prefix
filter customer routes.

1) I recently noticed that there now is a PERL package which can be used
from www.cpan.org, namely Net::IRR. Does anyone have any experience of
using this package. I am familiar with RtConfig and peval but this
implementation keeps everything in PERL which makes the product more robust
without resorting to system calls. It is not really practical to use whois
directly without some form of interface. I believe there is one for whois
but the above seems to be more tightly integrated. Perhaps you don't even
need to send emails to update the database.

2) Has anyone further information regarding the following working group
which has been setup, presumably to extend the function of RtConfig using an
XML interface?

3) I have continuing issues with the uniqueness of the naming convention for
AS-Set's (there doesn't appear to be one), so that the same AS-Set name can
be registered with different IRRs. The net result is that the results are
IRR search order dependent. Are there any plans to make the names unique or
at least suffix them with the IRR to assure uniqueness?

4) Does anyone have further information on how to set ones self up as a
mirror IRR, using say the Near Real Time Protocol? It speeds up
interrogation of the IRRs. I currently take my data second hand off RADB.

Thanks

Peter Mills
