About the upgrade
The new Whois v3, based on the RIPE v3 database, provides users of the APNIC Whois Database with the following new features:
- Enhanced syntax checking
- Better security features
- Improved response time and reliability
- More query options
- Integrated IRR service
- RPSL compliant database

Test server v3.apnic.net available for public testing. |

Whois v3 implemented. |
17 December 2002 |
APNIC Whois Database begins operating as an IRR, known as the APNIC Routing Registry. |
Changes to database objects
All object types are affected.
Existing objects
All existing objects are affected. This includes:

Deleted objects
The following objects no longer exist:
- as-macro
- community
- dom-prefix
New objects
Some new objects have been introduced:
- as-set?replaces as-macro)
- route-set (replaces community)
- peering-set
- filter-set
- rtr-set
- as-block

Changes to queries
New search options
New options have been added to search options already available in the database:
Changes to updates
Whois v3 introduces:
- support for RPSL, PGP, RPS-Auth and MIME
- stricter syntax checking (for example,no empty attributes allowed)
Changes to software
Most Whois clients should be able to access the new database, however, a new Whois client with v3 options has been made available for download.
